An introduction, Part I

In the middle of a rather messy and tedious divorce that began in June 2020, I made a vision board for what I thought my future might look like. It was part of my therapy, to give myself an opportunity to put in front of me some ideas of what I can do with my life as I close the book on my marriage.

I have been reluctant to share much of my story, a sense of disappointment and failure that I couldn’t make it work. But we all have a story to tell and by doing so can let others who might have similar experiences know they are not alone in their struggles. I found the exercise of building my version of what I want my future to look like to be very purposeful and helped me to focus. As I reflect on what was there, I am endlessly amazed at all that I have accomplished since I put my thoughts on paper.

There is my spirituality and meditation practice. My family and friends and nurturing those relationships. Where do I want to live, I gave myself some options, Arizona, Washington, Colorado.(I chose Arizona at this time) My creative endeavors of quilting, watercolor and knitting and making music for just a few.  My active pursuits of hiking, bicycling, swimming, playing golf, yoga teaching and practice.

And my love of travel. Where and how was changed by Covid-19 as international travel was pretty much shut down. Why not get myself a little trailer? Something I can tow behind my Subaru? So that went on the vision board, the only things that was drawn on with a permanent marker in the very beginning.

August 2021 I decide I need to take a break from house hunting and trailer shopping so I took myself on a mini vacation to Silver City New Mexico. Why? Because I have never been there and I want to see what’s there. I had been looking every day for almost the previous 9 months on the internet for Scamp trailers for sale. I had done my research on small trailers and decided on the Scamp fiberglass trailers. The layout I chose has everything I want, also what a lot of other people want so they were selling quickly, as were most RV’s.

I had planned to come home on a Friday after hiking north of Silver City that morning. Before I left the hotel while I had internet service I decided to check the website to see if there were any new listings. There was! It was in Flagstaff! Less than a days drive from home, or from Silver City. I called them and left a message, disappointed thinking they had already sold it even though it had just been listed the night before. So I drove to do the hike and when I got to the trailhead, there was a message on my phone. It was the sellers, they hadn’t sold it yet, I was the first one to call.

After discussing things with them, I told them I could be there by 4:00 and we could make the arrangements at the bank. It was really cutting it close as I wasn’t coming from Green Valley, I needed to drive from Silver City through some slow going mountain roads to get to the interstate to be able to make it there before the bank closed. But I made it. I also learned, never travel without your debit card, it’s how the bank identifies you. They were the nicest couple, they were so happy that I was the one who was getting their dream trailer. They did have two other calls after we had spoken, but they knew it was meant for me. I had come prepared with my new 7 pin connector installed with my brake controller, I had my hitch with me and money in the bank. I had put it into the universe what my desire was and by the Law of Attraction it came to me.

That’s how vision boards work and that’s why I am now sitting at Burro Creek Campground between Wickenburg and Kingman Arizona telling this story.
