April 27

co-pilot nap time
Yesterday was a good travel day. I left the Gateway to Death Valley, Beatty, NV at 8:00. Ruby was having a hard time settling down in the car. The previous two days she yowled for a while then settled down in typical co-pilot fashion, sleeping. But yesterday she couldn’t get there. So when I stopped to get gas in Tonopah, I put them both in the trailer for the drive.

The road was in much better condition than I thought it would be, a smooth drive without a lot of bumps.

A little bit farther along, a stop for a quick lunch on the side of the road in Mina. Not much going on there, but a little photo op for Brownie. She was feeling left out of the journey. One more stop for fuel in Yerington then on to Lahonta Reservoir for a night or two.

Turns out it’s going to be two. A nice spot to take a break before heading through Reno and over to Shasta. I found the perfect log to watch the gloaming settle in over the water. The root poking into the sky provides the perfect backrest to watch the pelicans drifting by looking for a snack.

And I forgot to mention about the burros wandering near the entrance to the RV park in Beatty. Seems they quite knew where to find the fresh shoots.
