May 20, An outing for Brownie
Well, Brownie was beginning to feel left out of some of the adventures. I had to remind her that she is a little bit like the Skin Horse in the Velveteen Rabbit story. She has been loved for many years and has some spots where her fur has been loved off. And unlike other bears, she doesn’t do well in the rain or other watery situations so she has had to stay at home with the cats.
Today we woke up to blue skies and sunshine. Hooray!! And it’s the first day of the Rhody Festival in town. After a bit of laundry we headed to town to check out the happenings. The first stop was at the quilt show being held at the Old Schoolhouse Furniture Store. They just draped the quilts over the couches and beds in the showrooms, each room being a former elementary school room complete with chalkboards. Charming. All the fixtures in the bathrooms were at the level for kindergarteners.
Next stop we went downtown to where other activities are happening. The local restaurants are ready for a busy weekend and people were already taking advantage of the outdoor seating even with it being only 52 degrees with a 25 mph wind. Some were even wearing shorts and sandals while I’m bundled up with my fleece jacket and windbreaker.
What small town festival isn’t complete without a carnival? That seems to be the biggest draw so far. Tomorrow there will be a car show, an art exhibit at the events center and a fun run. I will be on duty at the lighthouse through the rest of the weekend.
Brownie was more attracted to the semi permanent art sculptures in town, a big heart and one of their painted sea lions. In the little town of Tubac, south of where I live in Arizona they have painted javelina sculptures. Here they have Stellar sea lions.
Then we were off to the library to do some work. Have a beautiful weekend!!
Sounds like some fun adventures! Glad the weather is improving. Miserable here. Six Dragon boat practices cancelled so far due to severe winds. I hope we get out on the water tomorrow!
